Non – Profit Organization: Social Media Framework for Action
About:
(Current, name not disclosed) A mid sized non profit organization has retained me to help them broaden their use of social technologies to strengthen staff collaboration and social learning skills in order to increase/improve their response to emerging challenges facing their service recipients.
Assignment: Create a social media strategy framework that will improve the overall performance outcomes of the organization. Provide facilitation and coaching to the the organization’s Social Tech Integration team. Deliver workshops that broaden the social learning and collaboration abilities of staff.
Faith Community: Web Site & Social Media Integration
About:
(Current, name not disclosed) A faith community has retained my partner and I to re-design their web site and coach their staff and volunteers on using the content management system. Their current site is static and is not communicating the rich mix of programs offered by the church. They are wanting the new site to reach potential new members and to celebrate the tremendous vitality of the their church community.
Assignment: Working with the Church Web Site Team, create a vision and goals for their web site and then design a site that meets the website goals set by the Team. Provide coaching on the use of the content management system.
Return to Rural – a community & economic development project
About:
Return to Rural (R2R) is creating a rural community where young people see and connect with opportunity. R2R is a youth migration initiative centered on leveraging social media and relationship building to create an environment where young families can create their dream life in R2R communities.
Assignment: Create a social media strategy that will enables R2R to attract and retain early and mid-career families in their rural remote communities in the Special Areas and MD of Acadia No.34 Region.
Multi-Media Film Development Council of York Region (MFDC)
Mosaic Fragments; Rich Tapestry
About:
MFDC organizes and oversees an annual digital photo/film festival across York Region that showcases the diverse and vast stories of its inhabitants. Youth and adults that are service recipients, along with community members are asked to tell their stories and/or explore pressing issues such as violence against women, homelessness, youth violence, restorative justice, living with substance misuse, being differently-abled in an ill-equipped society and so forth.
Assignment: Create a web site and social media strategy that puts the control and ownership of the web platform and the execution of their online strategy in the hands of the Film Council’s team. The web platform will serve as a hub and platform that gives MFDC and its stakeholders an opportunity to engage, communicate, collaborate, and support the MFDC’s vision and initiatives. Delisle Your Services – Children’s Mental Health Organization
About:
Delisle is increasingly engaging youth at risk of mental health difficulties by using leading edge online tools. Delisle Youth Services is creating platforms that will help these youth create their own on-line strategies to learn about and cope with mental health problems so they can reduce their vulnerability to homelessness and poverty.
Assignment: Create the Delisle Online Communication and Social Media Strategy that will guide and support organizational, program and fundraising activities both internally and externally. Also facilitate the development of policies and procedures that provide guidelines to direct the implementation and ongoing use of social media, communication and technology tools for staff, volunteers, clients and donors.
York Region Alliance to End Homelessness
a catalyst for collaborative solutions to homelessness and poverty
About:
York Region Alliance to End Homelessness (YRAEH) is a coalition of stakeholders who are working collaboratively to implement a strategic response to homelessness/risk of homelessness in the nine municipalities that make up York Region.
Assignment: Create a social media strategy that conforms to the YRAEH communication and business plan. Also, design and develop an inter-active web site that raises awareness of poverty and homelessness. The web site is a hub for member agency practitioners to collaborate on projects, share knowledge and expertise and strengthens the local social service network.
Street Kids International – a catalyst for better lives
About:
Street Kids International is a non-profit agency based in Toronto, Canada and London, United Kingdom. Their mission is to help street youth worldwide develop business skills and health knowledge to better their lives.
Assignment: Develop and implement the Streetjibe Project in York Region. The Streetjibe Project is a three year learning community initiative (community of practice). I brought together youth workers from diverse sectors with the goal of increasing their engagement skills, strengthening their networks and increasing their capacity to collaborate effectively so youth experiencing poverty will have access to relevant services. I also designed, developed and supported an online web platform that enables youth worker practitioners to share knowledge, expertise and innovations that will strengthen service delivery.
New Media Projects: Video, PhotoVoice, Podcasts, VoiceThread, Wikis, Mapping
I create or co-create many new media productions for nonprofit, education and public sector groups. It’s something I enjoy as it pushes my interest in using new media to help make complex issues easier to understand. It also pushes my own drive to create.
